University of Washington President Mark Emmert joined us on the show today to talk about the upcoming season, the new era of Husky football under Steve Sarkisian, and more.
Emmert is really happy with what he is seeing out of his new head football coach Steve Sarkisian. Emmert talked about the things he sees out of the new program that have excited him, “Steve and this new group of coaches has brought a level of energy, openness, and excitement that the program was sadly missing. The kids look better, they’re carrying their heads around high, they’re excited to play football.
Emmert, who used to be the President at LSU, sees many comparisons to Nick Saban, a man he brought in to turn around the program while President of LSU, “The pieces that are real similar, are that they are both very demanding characters. He(Sarkisian) wants these kids to work and work hard so they understand what it takes to be succesful in the fourth quarter. And so he pushes them hard, he’s very organized, uses every second of the practices effectively, thinks in a very disciplined way about football–that’s all very Sabanesque.”
