After being listed as a finalist, Sounders FC midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro was named 2016 MLS Newcomer of the Year by the league on Monday.
Lodeiro played a big role in the Sounders’ late-season push to the MLS Cup playoffs, as well as their progression to the Western Conference finals, after arriving and signing a Designated Player contract just before the close of the summer transfer window. In his 13 regular-season appearances for Seattle, Lodeiro notched four goals and eight assists.

In a statement from the team, Lodeiro said: “I am really happy; thank you to everyone who voted for me. The most important thing is that I earned this award because of the team. Without them, none of this would have been possible and it gives me strength to continue to work. As my coach says and my teammates say, ‘We are not finished yet.'”
