John Clayton Gives Us The Facts

As he does every day, John Clayton joined us to give all the NFL junkies their football fix for the day. So here are the facts:

On Julius Peppers: “It’s a little bit of a reality check…and I think we saw this with Patrick Kerney, that once you reach the age of 30…it’s kind of a staggering stat…there’s only been 4 (pass-rushers) that have averaged 12 (sacks) a year in their 30’s. I think he’s only going to make $10, 11 or 12 million a year.”

julius-peppersOn Whether Seattle Would be Interested in Peppers: “They’ve got to really study this week and see where they are draft-wise, because you know Pete Carroll, as a defensive coach, is going to want a pass-rusher. You can get one in the draft, but you may be better served to get Peppers. I don’t expect Kerney to be back, and so you can replace Kerney with Peppers – it’s going to be a little more costly, but I think you’ve got to consider it.”

On Drew Brees Tweeting About Wanting LaDanian Tomlinson: “I think you can see with the fact that he has to tweet and get a fan-poll out of this, that he may be blocked by management. They have a lot of good running backs. There’s, I think, a resistance in management and so now you can see that Brees is trying to use his popularity to get his buddy there, and the fact that he has to go tweet on the first day tells me that he probably won’t be able to pull it off.”westbrook

On Brian Westbrook: “I think Westbrook is physically done. Maybe there’s an outside chance for the minimum salary Minnesota would do something, but I have to think (he’s) done.”

On Seattle Going After a Free Agent RB: “Once you get to 30 in this league – remember, Seattle experienced Edgerrin James last year – that didn’t work out too well. I think now Seattle’s not going to be jumping into the ‘Oh, we gotta get LT, Brian Westbrook’ mix.”
