Seahawks First-Round Draft? Take a QB!

Today I came across a mock draft, put together by Don Banks at Sports Illustrated. He drifted from the Kiper and McShay schools of thought, and actually proposed the Seahawks take Bryan Bulaga, OT from Iowa and…drumroll please…Jimmy Clausen at #14.
YES! Thank you! Someone is finally speaking my language. I’m not saying Matt Hasselbeck is done, but I am saying it’s time to draft his heir apparent.
Another reason I think it’s feasible is based on what John Clayton said on the show today.
“You can’t win in this league without a quarterback. Clausen may not be the best, but if you think he’s better than Mark Sanchez – and I think people do – then you have to take him. The Pete Carroll regime will be judged, not on Matt Hasselbeck, it will be judged on that next quarterback.”
Jim Moore, my trusty sidekick today, completely disagrees with me. He says that taking Jimmy Clausen would be taking ‘bells and whistles over substance’.
But we need this piece of the puzzle. Yes, the Seahawks need a lot, but the quarterback is the backbone of the team – and we’re going to need one at some point in the near future.
Remember, we have two first-round draft picks. In fact, I think, if Sam Bradford is available at #6, the Hawks should take him. But if it comes down to Jimmy Clausen, you still need to plan on the QB of the future, especially if Pete Carroll is going to be accountable for this team.
Am I crazy? A lot of people disagree with me, but there are a fair amount that think it’s time to draft the future of the franchise. Who do you think the Seahawks should take at #6 and #14? Leave your thoughts below and we’ll be back at this again tomorrow.
