As part of commemorating the team’s 40th anniversary in 2017, the Mariners announced Tuesday that they will be holding a season-long celebration that includes special appearances by former players and promotions at Safeco Field, as well as a new logo and patch.
The new logo will be worn on the right sleeve of Mariners home and road jerseys during the 2017 season. The logo features Mount Rainier and the Seattle skyline with the Mariners’ trademark nautical compass rose superimposed on the number 40.
The patch will be in two color schemes, with navy as the predominant color and a version in royal blue and gold for the Sunday alternate uniforms. The logo will also appear on the outfield wall at Safeco Field.
Other patches the Mariners have worn on their uniforms over the years have included the All-Star Game (2001), the team’s 30th anniversary (2007), a tribute to Dave Niehaus (2011), the team’s 35th anniversary season (2012), an MLB-wide tribute to the Negro Leagues in 1985, and commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Major League Baseball in 1994.
Authentic home and road jerseys featuring the 40th anniversary patch are scheduled to be available in Mariners Team Stores next week. Alternate jerseys, along with other apparel featuring the logo, will be in stores in January.
Details of the special events will be announced before the start of the season.
