Marcellus Wiley: “101% chance” of a 2011 NFL Lockout

Marcellus Wiley, aka ‘Dat Dude’, joined the show today to talk about his passionate dispute with Mike Golic on “Mike and Mike” on ESPN Radio this morning regarding the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
When asked whether he thought there would be a lockout next season, he gave it a 101% chance.
“I don’t know the extent, the duration, but it’s going to happen. There will be one day – minimum – next year where that lockout occurs. These sides are not even looking in the same direction.”
Though it’s not looking good for the NFL in 2011, we still have plenty of football on the way this season, with the Seahawks kicking off the 2010 season this Sunday at Qwest.
Wiley weighed in on the Seahawks and the perpetual roster-churn we’ve seen from Pete Carroll this year.
“You gotta respect that he’s trying to create a culture and create a team that is under his rule and his authority. You have to respect that because he is a new head coach. I think that it’s ok because (the Seahawks) weren’t successful last year anyway. Every player in the league knows that when you’re on a team that doesn’t win, next year’s team is going to look a lot different.”
Speaking of the new-look Seahawks, it seems likely that Tyler Polumbus, one of the most recent additions to the roster, will be starting at left tackle this weekend – Wiley doesn’t think he should be doubted.
“A lot of great players come off of situations like this, where you get your opportunities to shine. The issue is going to be, what is he going to do when it’s his time to shine ? What is Tyler going to do when the lights get bright?”
Whether Tyler will shine or not is yet to be seen, but they do take on a very good 49ers team, one that Wiley calls a ‘monster ‘.
