Ex-Michigan QB Forcier mulling transfer to UW

Washington is one of at least nine schools that former Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier is considering a transfer to, ESPN’s Joe Schad reports.

Schad joined the Calabro show on Tuesday and said Forcier told him he has “great respect” for Steve Sarkisian, who recruited Forcier when Forcier was in high school in San Diego and Sarkisian was an assistant at USC.

Forcier started as a freshman at Michigan, throwing for 2,050 yards with 13 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 58.7 percent completion rate but lost his job to Denard Robinson before the 2010 season. In eight games as Robinson’s backup he threw for 597 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions.

Forcier was ruled academically ineligible for Michigan’s loss to Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl.

Days after the university introduced new head coach Brady Hoke earlier this month Forcier said he was leaving the school.

According to Schad, Forcier is also considering FBS schools Miami, Baylor, San Diego State, Middle Tennessee State and New Mexico as well as lower-division schools Montana, South Carolina State and Florida A&M.

Per NCAA rules, Forcier would have to sit out a year if he were to transfer to an FBS school.

“I think those situations might be a little more attractive than Washington when you consider that he’d have to go against two pretty good quarterbacks and some more incoming recruits perhaps,” Schad said.

Redshirt sophomore Keith Price and redshirt freshman Nick Montana figure to compete for Washington’s starting quarterback job next season. The Huskies also received a commitment last weekend from Derrick Brown, a quarterback from Murrieta, Calif.
