If the Eastlake Little League All Stars from Sammamish were nervous going into their opener in the Little League World Series, there was no sign of it as the team exploded for four runs in the first inning en route to an 8-4 win over Corpus Christi, Texas Thursday in Williamsport, Pa.
Dalton Chandler led the way at the plate with three hits including a fifth inning triple and sixth inning double, and pitchers Jack Matheson and Jacob Dahlstrom were strong on the mound in the opener of the double elimination tournament.
Corpus Christi managed to close the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the third. But Sammamish broke the game open in the sixth, as Dalton drove in Jack Carper with a double to kick things off. A single by Will Armbruesters scored Dalton from second.
Sammamish will play again Sunday against the winner of Thursday’s first round game between Nashville, Tenn. and Westport, Conn.
