Seattle U. to face Evergreen at ShoWare Center

Oct 17, 2011, 10:17 AM

Seattle University’s men’s basketball schedule will include the first ever NCAA Division I game at ShoWare Center. Here is the university’s release:

KENT – The Seattle University men’s basketball team will face Evergreen State College in the first-ever Division I men’s college game at Kent’s ShoWare Center on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, in the ShoWare College Classic Presented by Pop Chips and Monster Energy.

The game will tipoff at 7 p.m. and tickets are on sale now at ShoWare Center’s Box Office, ShoWareCenter.com, Facebook/ShoWareCenter or by phone at 253.856.6999. Tickets are $11 for general admission, $17 for reserved club seats and $25 for selected few end zone courtside seats.

ShoWare Center has hosted several high school basketball games over the last three years, but never a Division I men’s or women’s basketball contest. That will change when the Seattle University Redhawks take on the Evergreen State College Geoducks from Olympia in a nonconference game for both teams.

Seattle University finished 11-20 last season and will join the Western Athletic Conference next season under third-year head coach Cameron Dollar. Evergreen State College, an NAIA school which plays in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, was 8-20 last season

Seattle University kicks off its season Saturday, Nov. 12 with a home exhibition game at KeyArena against Pacific Lutheran. The team has already earned some preseason buzz as Jarell Flora (Bremerton) has been named as a preseason Independent Freshman of the Year and senior Aaron Broussard (Federal Way) and sophomore Sterling Carter (Seattle) have both been named preseason independent first teamers.

ESPN 710 Seattle will carry the game on radio in the Seattle area with Dave Grosby and Gary Hill, Jr., calling the action courtside from ShoWare Center.
