The white-hot bat of catcher Jesus Sucre returns to the Mariners’ lineup on Tuesday against the Astros.
Sucre went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and a hit-by-pitch on Sunday, and is 10 for his last 14 (.714) since being recalled on Sept. 2. He’s batting .500 in seven games this season.
Sucre will be behind the plate for Felix Hernandez, who threw seven shutout innings during his most recent start against the wild-card leading Blue Jays. The King will have this and one more start to try and push Seattle to the postseason.
After their 11-inning win Monday, the Mariners entered the day two games back of Baltimore for the second wild-card spot, and they’re even with Detroit. You can catch Game 2 of the Mariners’ series in Houston at 5:10 on 710 ESPN Seattle. Coverage begins with the pregame show at 4.
