Quarterback Cyler Miles is taking a voluntary leave of absence from the Washington football program and will not take part in spring practice, the school announced Friday.
The UW’s press release cited undisclosed personal reasons for Miles’ decision and noted that it’s not a disciplinary matter.
“Cyler is dealing with some things in his life that are more important than football, and he felt it was important to take some time away from the game,” head coach Chris Petersen said in the UW’s release. “We are working to support him in any way we can and hope he returns back to the football field soon.”
Miles started 12 of the Huskies’ 14 games last season, missing the opener due to a suspension and then another game due to a concussion.
