RENTON – Some Seahawks injury and personnel updates from coach Pete Carroll’s Monday press conference:
• Carroll sounded even more confident than he did in his morning interview with “Brock and Salk” about quarterback Russell Wilson’s chances of playing next week against Los Angeles despite his sprained ankle, going so far as to say the Seahawks are counting on it. Carroll said Wilson is feeling “pretty good,” that he’s not in a walking boot – which would be the case for a serious foot or ankle injury – and that he’s practicing on Wednesday with the plan of playing Sunday. Carroll added: “We’ll take care of him and do a really good job of taking care of him through the week, but we’re counting on him making it back.” Asked if the Seahawks will need to bring in another quarterback – undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin is the only backup on Seattle’s roster – Carroll said they’re considering it.
• Carroll didn’t rule out right guard Germain Ifedi from playing next week, but that would seem to be unlikely given that he is less than a week removed from a high-ankle sprain, an injury that often sidelines players for a month or so. Carroll said something similar on “Brock and Salk” earlier Monday, though other comments he made in that interview indicated suggested that J’Marcus Webb would start again next week at right guard. Asked Monday afternoon in Ifedi has a chance, Carroll said: “He does but I don’t know. We won’t know until late in the week. He has a chance.’’
• Carroll said running back C.J. Prosise should be able to play despite cracking a bone in his hand, which will force him to wear a cast. Carroll: “We’ll see how he does with it, though. He’ll be wearing something to protect it, something he can play with. We’ll see how that goes.”
