Rookie running back Zac Brooks is among the players the Seahawks have cut as they continue to trim their roster from 90 to 75 before Tuesday’s 1 p.m. deadline, according to Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com.
Brooks, a seventh-round draft pick out of Clemson, was considered something of a long-shot to make Seattle’s roster given all the competition he was up against in Seattle’s backfield. The Seahawks drafted two other running backs ahead of him – C.J. Prosise in the third round and Alex Collins in the fifth – and also had Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael returning from last season.
Whatever chance Brooks had to ascend up the depth chart took a major hit when he missed two weeks of training camp due to a hamstring injury.
Waiving Brooks is the eighth known move the Seahawks have made to reach the 75-man roster limit. Seattle also released defensive back Brandon Browner, placed defensive tackle Sealver Siliga on Injured Reserve and waived five other players: offensive lineman Kristjan Sokoli, wide receivers Deshon Foxx (with an injury designation) Montario Hunter, fullback Kyle Coleman and defensive tackle DeAngelo Tyson.
