Four players from Washington and three from Washington State have officially been invited to the 2015 NFL Combine, set for Feb. 17-23 in Indianapolis.
Linebackers Hau’oli Kikaha and Shaq Thompson, nose tackle Danny Shelton and cornerback Marcus Peters make up the Huskies contingent, while quarterback Connor Halliday, defensive tackle Xavier Cooper and wide receiver Vince Mayle will represent WSU.
Shelton, Thompson and national sack leader Kikaha all earned first-team 2014 All-American honors for helping Washington rack up 52 sacks (second in the nation) and put together the 22nd best run defense in the FBS. Kikaha was a unanimous first-team All-American, just the fifth Husky in history to earn that distinction, and Thompson, who also played running back and safety in 2014, won the Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in college football.
Thompson and Peters are both early NFL Draft entrants, choosing to forego their senior seasons, though Peters was dismissed by the Huskies midway through the season after several reported run-ins with Chris Petersen’s coaching staff.
Halliday finished 2015 with 3,873 passing yards, good enough for ninth in the FBS even though he missed the final three games of the year with a broken leg. Mayle was fifth in the nation with 1,483 receiving yards and was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team. Cooper, who is entering the draft after his junior season, led WSU with five quarterback sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss.
Over 300 prospects will participate in the combine in preparation of the NFL Draft, which will take place from April 30 to May 2 in Chicago.
