Seahawks Draft: Alabama has an under-the-radar DT in Byron Young

The Seahawks need help on defense, and the Alabama Crimson Tide are once again expected to have many defenders selected early in this year’s NFL Draft.
While one top Bama defender – edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. – could be in play for the Seahawks at No. 5 overall, there’s another member of the Crimson Tide’s defensive front who could be a name to watch for Seattle come late-April.
Seahawks Draft: Close look at LB Anderson, QB Young from Bama insider
Alabama sideline reporter Christian Miller, a former Crimson Tide linebacker, shared an under-the-radar prospect to keep a close eye on for the Seahawks during a visit with Seattle Sports’ Wyman and Bob on Tuesday.
“I really like Byron Young,” he said.
Young is a 6 foot 3, 292-pound defensive tackle who was a first-team All-SEC member in 2022, when he had four sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss.
“If you’re looking for an interior guy that has pass-rush ablity, Byron Young is a guy who is not spoken about enough,” Miller said. “He’s a very technical guy, he’s got a great measurables, but even more impressive is he has great hand usage.”
The Seahawks need help on the interior of their defensive line after some severe struggles last season.
One of Young’s best college games came against Ole Miss, when he had two sacks and six tackles.
“You go back and watch the game against Ole Miss, I mean, he had a huge breakout game and was so disruptive and all over the place,” Miller said. “I mean, he could have been credited for four sacks.”
“A very humble guy, a great leader,” Miller added. “I think Byron Young, if you’re looking for an interior guy who’s kind of flying under the radar, I think he’s definitely a name to keep an eye on. He can play the run well, he’s disruptive against the run and pass rush.”
