Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager is quickly establishing himself as a fan favorite here in Seattle. And a sweet letter he recently got from a kid in Houston shows he’s making plenty of fans across the country.

Seager lost his bat during a game several weeks ago against the Astros in Houston, sending it flying into the stands where it landed on a young fan named Lyle. But instead of keeping it as a souvenir, the youngster gave the bat back to Seager, who was in the middle of a 15-game hitting streak in the first series after the All-Star game.

Why in the world would he do that? Seems the kid (or his parents) respected the streak enough to return the lumber to its owner.

Recently, Lyle sent a heartwarming note to Seager about the incident, posted over the weekend by Seager’s wife Julie on Twitter.

“My name is Lyle Raymond. Your bat landed on me. I am OK,” said the letter, barely legible on three-prong, hole-punched notebook paper. “Thanks for giving me the thumbs up when you were on first base. I like the Astros but will cheer you on too. I gave back your bat because you had a big hitting streak with that bat. I hope you have more hits with that bat. Your fan, Lyle.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t help. Seager’s streak ended in the game against the Astros. But he’s still among the Mariners top hitters, batting .296 with 17 home runs and 51 RBIs. No word if he’s still using the bat.
