After being scratched from the lineup two hours before Sunday’s game, Seth Smith will bat second for the red-hot Mariners in the first of a four-game set against the Angels.
Smith will DH as part of a lefty-heavy lineup against Angels starter Ricky Nolasco. Smith suffered a bruise on his foot after fouling a ball off the foot in his final at-bat Saturday night. Ketel Marte also returns to shortstop after getting the day off Sunday.
Felix Hernandez takes the mound for Seattle, seeking career win No. 150. According to Elias Sports, the only active pitcher with more than 150 wins for one team is Tigers ace Justin Verlander (169). Since 2013, Hernandez is 9-4 with a 2.19 ERA in 19 starts against the Angels. This also marks the four-year anniversary of Felix’s perfect game, the 23rd in Major League history.
First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and will air live on 710 ESPN Seattle. The pregame show begins at 6 p.m.
