Jeff Cunningham scored his second penalty kick goal of the game just before the final whistle to give FC Dallas a 2-2 tie with the Seattle Sounders FC on Thursday night in Major League Soccer.
With the draw, Seattle (2-1-2) and moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference. Dallas is 0-1-3.
In the 94th minute, just before the officials were about to end the match, Dallas rookie Jason Yeisley bulled his way through Seattle defenders Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Leo Gonzalez inside the penalty area and was taken down for the foul.
Cunningham, who led the MLS with 17 goals last year, then lined up at the dot and slotted a low shot just inside the left goal post for his third goal of the season.
Fredy Montero put the Sounders ahead 2-1 in the 55th minute when he boomed a perfectly executed free kick from 40 yards that sailed over the wall of Dallas defenders and curled just inside the upper left corner of the net, past goalkeeper Dario Sala.
Steve Zakuani also scored for Sounders’ other goal, tying it at 1 in the 38th minute, 11 minutes after Cunningham’s first goal, also off a PK.
