The big move of the Mariners’ offseason thus far cost them a valuable arm in their bullpen. On Wednesday, they signed a replacement.
Four names to watch to fill Mariners’ OF, left-handed bat needs
Seattle announced the addition of right-handed relief pitcher Trevor Gott on a one-year contract on Wednesday afternoon, two days after reports first surfaced that Gott and the M’s had an agreement in place.
The Mariners had a need for a reliever after parting ways with Erik Swanson, who was a reliable member of their bullpen especially in 2022, in their trade with the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this month that brought All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández to Seattle.
The 30-year-old Gott most recently played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022. In seven MLB seasons, he has also pitched for the Los Angeles Angels (2015), Washington Nationals (2016-18), and San Francisco Giants (2019-20).
Last season, Gott had a 4.14 ERA with 44 strikeouts to 12 walks over 45 2/3 innings (45 appearances). He also had a strong 1.029 WHIP and .205 opponent batting average.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky who also played his college ball in the city at the University of Kentucky, Gott was a sixth-round pick of the San Diego Padres in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Gott’s contract with the Mariners is worth $1.2 million, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
