The Mariners beat Detroit 6-5 in 15 innings Tuesday night when Mike Zunino scored Adam Lind with a sacrifice fly. Kyle Seager tied the game twice, first with a three-run homer in the eighth inning then with an RBI single in the 15th.
Not to be overlooked in the Mariners’ wild win was the effort from their bullpen, which allowed one run over 10 innings to keep Seattle in the game. Six different relievers combined to pitch nine scoreless innings before Ariel Miranda allowed the go-ahead homer in the 15th. That included a 1-2-3 ninth inning from rookie Edwin Diaz, who struck out two batters and needed only nine pitches to retire the side in order.
Manager Scott Servais praised Seattle’s bullpen afterward. See what he said in the video above.
