Sounders lose to KC 1-0, will miss MLS playoffs for 1st time

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — William Agada scored an all-important goal while John Pulskamp stopped two shots as Sporting Kansas City earned a 1-0 victory Sunday over Seattle, eliminating the Sounders from postseason contention.
Sporting KC 1, Seattle 0: Summary
Despite winning the Concacaf Champions League in May, the Sounders will miss the MLS playoffs for the first time in franchise history after reaching the postseason in each of their first 13 seasons.
Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer, who has led the team to two MLS titles and four MLS Cup appearances in his seven seasons, said on the FS1 broadcast after the game that he “accepts responsibility” for the Sounders missing out on the playoffs. Click here to watch the interview.
Agada’s game-winner came in the 41st minute with an assist from Daniel Salloi.

Sporting KC (11-15-7) outshot Seattle (12-17-4) 16-10, with 11 shots on goal to two for the Sounders.
Pulskamp saved both of the shots he faced for Sporting KC. Stefan Frei saved 10 of the 11 shots he faced for the Sounders.
Both teams next play Sunday. Sporting KC visits Dallas and Seattle hosts the San Jose Earthquakes.
