Bump’s Seahawks Breakdown: Surprise on defense’s depth chart

Sep 8, 2022, 11:57 AM | Updated: 11:57 am

The Seahawks have set their initial depth chart going into their Week 1 matchup with Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos on Monday night at Lumen Field, and there’s a significant surprise to be found on it.

The starting outside cornerbacks are both players new to Seattle’s system, and while rookie Tariq Woolen at right corner was expected, Mike Jackson at left corner was not.

K.J. Wright: Why it’s important for Seahawks to play Woolen, rookies

So what went into this decision to name Jackson a starter, and what does it tell us about the way the Seahawks are approaching things? Former NFL wide receiver and current Seahawks analyst Michael Bumpus shares his insight in his latest breakdown video for the Seattle Sports YouTube channel, which you watch at the top of this post.

You can hear much more from Bumpus, who also co-hosts Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and serves as an analyst on the Pac-12 Network, when he hosts the Seahawks Radio Network pregame, halftime and postgame shows all season long on Seattle Sports 710 AM and KIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM.

The Seahawks are set to face the Broncos at 5:15 p.m. Monday to open the 2022 season. Coverage on Seattle Sports and KIRO Newsradio will begin with the pregame show at 2 p.m. that afternoon, and the postgame show will go for roughly two hours after the game.
