Washington State defensive end Xavier Cooper was selected with the 96th overall pick in the NFL Draft by Cleveland on Friday night.

The Tacoma native will join former Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton, a native of Auburn, on the Browns’ revamped D-line; Shelton was taken 12th overall in the first round Thursday.

Cooper, who checks in at 6 foot 4 and 299 pounds, started in 34 of his 36 games at WSU. He declared for the draft after a successful redshirt junior year in which he led the Cougars with 9.5 tackles for loss. He had 37 total tackles and ranked second on the team with five sacks. He also made five sacks in 2013, a team high.

Before college, Cooper starred in football and basketball at Wilson High School.
