Bump’s Seahawks Breakdown: Which RB steps up with Walker injured?

Aug 26, 2022, 2:02 PM

The Seahawks are going into the 2022 season with a renewed emphasis on a balanced offensive attack, which in today’s game means running the ball more than most other teams.

K.J. Wright: Success of Seahawks this season falls on Diggs and Adams

The good news for Seattle is that Rashaad Penny is back after a breakout stretch to end the 2021 season. All signs point to him being ready for the season opener on Monday, Sept. 12 against Russell Wilson’s Denver Broncos, although Penny will not be available for Friday’s preseason finale at the Dallas Cowboys, with Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announcing Thursday that Penny is out of action due to a positive test for COVID-19.

Even so, Penny should start the season as expected, but the bad news for the Hawks is that rookie Ken Walker III, who was one of their more intriguing draft picks as a second-round selection, is out with no current timetable for a return following hernia surgery.

That rules out Walker as the second option for carries out of the backfield to begin the season, so who will step up and become that No. 2 running back?

In the latest Seahawks video breakdown from Michael Bumpus, the former NFL wide receiver and current Seahawks Radio Network host shares what he’s seen from the other rushers, chiefly DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer, and who he thinks should be the next man up.
