Mariners Breakdown: Why is inconsistency plaguing the M’s right now?
Aug 22, 2022, 4:47 PM
With the way the American League’s wild card race is right now, when the Mariners win a series, it seems like the sky’s limit. And when they lose one, it’s more like the sky is falling.
Fann: Up and down Mariners need France, Gilbert to get going
Well, there’s been a lot of both feelings among the Mariners fan base lately, and that’s because the M’s keep alternating between winning and losing series. Seriously, this is how their last 10 series have gone: win over Texas, loss to Houston, win over Texas, loss to Houston, win over the Yankees, split with the Angels, win over the Yankees, loss to Texas, win over the Angels, loss to Oakland.
The water sure has been choppy in Seattle, enough to make any sailor seasick.
How do we make sense of it? We put Seattle Sports’ Bob Stelton to the task on Monday in his latest Mariners breakdown video, and he has plenty to say after watching all that inconsistency play out over the last month.
This week, Bob answers:
• What happened in Oakland this weekend, where the M’s lost two of three in a series where Bob was hoping for a sweep over the lowly A’s.
• What’s the overall level of concern about the Mariners as they try to lock up a playoff spot in a crowded field of wild card contenders.
• If the Mariners are finding out that getting into a playoff spot and holding onto it are two different things.
• Which player he thinks needs to step up to get the M’s back on track this week.
