Seahawks Breakdown: What Drew Lock missing preseason game means for QB battle

Aug 17, 2022, 4:31 PM | Updated: 4:32 pm

The Seahawks had a plan for their second preseason game. The key word is ‘had.’

Wyman’s Seahawks takeaways from the preseason opener

Drew Lock was named the starter at quarterback for Thursday’s game at Lumen Field against the Chicago Bears, something head coach Pete Carroll said on Tuesday was always the plan after Geno Smith started at QB last Saturday against the Steelers in the preseason opener. Unfortunately, Lock tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after Carroll’s press conference, ruling him out for the Bears game.

What does this all mean for the Seahawks’ QB battle as they look to name their starter for the regular season?

Michael Bumpus of Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy breaks that down in his latest video for the Seattle Sports YouTube channel, and the former NFL wide receiver and current host of the pregame, halftime and postgame shows on the Seahawks Radio Network said it’s not good news for Lock’s chances. Then again, that doesn’t mean the race is completely over.

Watch the video at the top of this post for the full explanation.

For more from Bump, catch him from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday on Bump and Stacy, which airs live on Seattle Sports Station 710 AM, SeattleSports.com or the Seattle Sports app.
