Bump’s Seahawks Breakdown: Biggest concern is on-field leadership
Jul 29, 2022, 11:15 AM
The Seahawks have had two of the same captains for many years with Russell Wilson leading the offense and Bobby Wagner leading the defense.
But both Wilson and Wagner are gone and the Seahawks have a very different-looking roster come the 2022 season opener, which takes place on Monday Night Football against Wilson and his new team, the Denver Broncos.
There are many things that Seattle is aiming to sort out in training camp – which kicked off this week – such as who the starting quarterback will be, what role the team’s nine draft picks will have, as well as how the defense will look under first-year coordinator Clint Hurtt and new assistants Sean Desai and Karl Scott.
But one thing the team needs to get sorted out now, former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus said, is leadership. In fact, Bumpus said the Seahawks’ leadership is his biggest concern entering training camp now that Wilson and Wagner are on other teams. Bumpus, who hosts Bump and Stacy on Seattle Sports 710 AM every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., explained why in his latest video breakdown for Seattle Sports’ YouTube channel.
“I’m not going to talk about scheme, I’m not going to talk about personnel,” Bumpus said. “The thing I’m most concerned is leadership.”
Bumpus also shares his picks for who he thinks can step up and be new leaders for the Seahawks going forward.
