The Seahawks bolstered their offensive line on Saturday, signing free-agent guard Jahri Evans, a six-time Pro Bowler.
To make room for Evans on the 90-man roster, they waived guard Kona Schwenke.
Evans, 32, was released this offseason by New Orleans after 10 years with the Saints. A four-time first-team All-Pro, Evans was a Pro Bowler each season from 2009-14, but he was nagged by knee and ankle injuries that kept him out of five games in 2015.
After helping the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV, Evans signed a seven-year, $56.7 million contract that at the time was the biggest contract in NFL history for a guard.
The Seahawks had brought in Evans for a visit on Friday.
Schwenke was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 but spent the year on injured reserve due to a knee injury suffered in the preseason.
The Seahawks also waived five injured players Saturday: tight end Cooper Helfet (broken foot), tight end Ronnie Shields (Achilles), fullback Brandon Cottom (Achilles), fullback Tre Madden (shoulder) and defensive end David Perkins (ankle). They signed five more: fullback Jonathan Amosa, wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu, running back Troymaine Pope, tight end Joe Sommers and linebacker Kache Palacio.
