The 2022 NHL Draft is here, and it promises to be a busy couple of days for the Seattle Kraken.

Seattle Kraken get No. 4 overall pick in NHL Draft

That would be the case if the Kraken just made all of their picks, because there are plenty of them – 12 to be exact. But just like how they acquired their five extra selections in the seven-round draft, there is a high possibility of trades by Kraken general manager Ron Francis to further flesh out their NHL roster for the upcoming 2022-23 season.

Keep an eye on this post throughout the draft, which starts at 4 p.m. Thursday at Montreal’s Bell Centre, for updates on each Seattle Kraken selection and deal.

The chips couldn’t have fallen any better than they did for the Kraken. Wright, the overwhelming favorite to be the No. 1 pick for essentially a year heading into this draft, didn’t go No. 1 to Montreal. Or No. 2 to New Jersey. And when Arizona took Logan Cooley at No. 3, the player that the Kraken likely would have taken if they had the top pick in the draft landed in their lap.

Wright, an 18 year old from Ontario, starred for Canada in the U18 World Championships in 2021, finishing second in the tournament in scoring and tallying two goals in Canada’s win over Russia in the gold medal game. He also had a staggering 94 points (32 goals, 62 assists) in 63 games with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs in 2021-22.

The Kraken now have a tremendous young duo of Wright and Matty Beniers, their selection at No. 2 overall in the 2021 NHL Draft, to build around.
