BUMP AND STACY
Bumpus: Why is star Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett underrated?
The Seahawks have one of the best receivers in the league over the last few seasons, but for whatever reason, he isn’t viewed very highly from a national perspective.
NFL.com recently released a video of the most underrated receivers in the league, and Lockett made the cut.
But Lockett has been among the league’s best since stepping into a larger role in the 2018 season. So why is still so underrated? Who better to explain than former NFL receiver Michael Bumpus?
In his latest video for Seattle Sports’ 710 AM’s YouTube channel, Bumpus shared his thoughts on the Hawks’ star wideout. You can watch and listen at this link or in the video player at the top of this story.
“The national fanbase does not give Tyler Lockett the love he deserves,” Bumpus said. “I’m going to tell you why.”
A big reason, Bumpus said, is Lockett’s personality. He’s a pretty laid-back guy who does things outside of football like sell real estate and write poetry. He doesn’t have what many see as a prototypical star receiver personality.
“He’s not a diva. He doesn’t require a lot of attention,” Bumpus said. “He just goes out and he does his job. And he does it quietly.”
But don’t mistake that for Lockett not being a star in the NFL. Over last three seasons, Lockett is top 10 in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
“When it comes to production, comes to reliability, you can count on this guy,” Bumpus said. “And he makes the difficult catch.”
