SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Seahawks Breakdown: Bumpus on rookie WRs Bo Melton, Dareke Young
The Seahawks made nine selections in the 2022 NFL Draft, and we’ve been breaking them all down.
Rost: Three rookies who can make or break Hawks’ 2022 season
We have just the guy for that in former NFL receiver Michael Bumpus, who will be Seattle Sports 710 AM’s newest full-time host starting Monday as he joins Stacy Rost on Bump and Stacy, airing each weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This installment of Bumpus’ draft pick breakdowns, which can be watched in the video at the top of this story or on the Seattle Sports 710 AM YouTube channel, is especially fitting as he’s taking a look at Bo Melton and Dareke Young, who the Seahawks took in the seventh round. Both are receivers – Bumpus’ old position.
Melton was a standout at Rutgers in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights had a rather lackluster passing attack in 2021, but Melton still averaged over 60 receiving yards a game and accounted for roughly 36% of Rutgers’ receiving yards last year. The New Jersey native was a four-star recruit out of high school and Melton chose Rutgers, which both of his parents attended, over powerhouse programs like Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Oregon. Melton scored 14 total touchdowns at Rutgers and ran a 4.34-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Young, meanwhile, attended Division-II Lenoir-Rhyne. He started his college career as a running back before shifting to receiver, tallying 1,176 receiving yards for Lenoir-Rhyne and 658 rushing yards while accumulating 24 total touchdowns.
