Former Seahawks quarterback Travaris Jackson won’t be prosecuted for the June incident in Florida in which he allegedly assaulted a woman reported to be his wife, according to TMZ Sports.
Jackson was arrested on June 24 in Kissimmee, Fla. after a domestic dispute in which he was accused of pulling a loaded gun on the woman and threatening to kill her. Jackson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/without intent to kill, which is a third-degree felony under Florida law. He pleaded not guilty.
According to TMZ, Florida’s assistant state attorney said there’s not enough evidence to secure a conviction. Citing court documents, TMZ quoted the assistant state attorney as saying: “From the investigation which has been made, it is the opinion of the writer that this case is not suitable for prosecution.”
Jackson, 33, was the Seahawks’ starter in 2011 and their backup the past three seasons. He was not re-signed when his contract expired after last season, which has left undrafted rookie Trevone Boykin in line to back up Russell Wilson. Jake Heaps, a product of Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., has been Seattle’s third quarterback.
Jackson remains a free agent, and it was believed that he was still a consideration for the Seahawks before his arrest. Asked last week if he’s been in communication with Jackson’s agent since then, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said: “I sent a note to his representative after the incident. Other than that, I haven’t heard much.”
