CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora recently wrote a column in which he listed out one move he wants to see every team make this offseason. With the Seahawks, La Canfora went all out.

“Trade Russell Wilson. The odds of winning another Super Bowl with him on his current contract are bleak at best,” La Canfora wrote. “He’s not gonna do an extension. Franchising him in his late 30s is silly. You have no picks and very little talent. It’s time for a reboot.”
La Canfora was one of the first to report last offseason that Wilson was unhappy with his current situation in Seattle, largely because of the amount of times he was hit and sacked.
While last offseason was full of rumors and speculation, Wilson and Seahawks management have made it clear that he’s not going anywhere and that neither side is ready to split up.
But many reporters and analyst, including La Canfora, believe that Wilson should get traded this offseason.
What does former NFL quarterback Jake Heaps think of La Canfora’s opinion regarding Wilson and the Seahawks? The Jake and Stacy host didn’t hold back on Tuesday.
“I disagree strongly with this,” Heaps said. “I believe that there might have to be some maneuvering with his contract, and I’ve said that from the beginning.”
La Canfora isn’t the only reporter to say that Wilson, who has two years remaining on his contract, won’t sign an extension with the Seahawks. Heaps isn’t buying that either.
“I don’t agree with that. I don’t think that is very accurate whatsoever,” Heaps said.
Heaps said that teams across the league have shown the ability to maneuver money and work around high quarterback salaries while being able to field Super Bowl-contending rosters. Heaps thinks the Seahawks should do that, especially because Wilson is one of the game’s elite quarterbacks.
“(Wilson) gives you a seat at the table when it comes to Super Bowl conversations every single year,” Heaps said. “You can get in the dance and you have a chance. And I believe that that still applies when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson.”
Heaps believes head coach Pete Carroll views the Seahawks as a team that’s close to being a championship contender with “some tweaks to the roster” and by adding “some star talent” through the draft and free agency this offseason.
“You can drastically turn this thing around and make your roster significantly better than what it was a season ago,” Heaps said. “Oh, and (they will) also have a healthy Russell Wilson throughout the entire year. So I don’t believe that Jason La Canfora’s depiction of the Seattle Seahawks is accurate to where they are right now. But they’ve got to change the status quo of how they’ve conducted business over the last four years in the offseason.”
