During halftime of the Seahawks’ Week 8 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the man behind one of the greatest stretches of success in Seahawks history became the 14th member of the team’s Ring of Honor.

That would be Mike Holmgren, who joined the the Seahawks as head coach, general manager and executive vice president of football operations in early 1999 and led the team to four straight NFC West titles as well as its first Super Bowl appearance. During his time in Seattle, Holmgren won five division titles, made six playoff appearances, had a winning record in seven of 10 seasons, and had three 10-win seasons.

Holmgren was the winningest Seahawks head coach in history with a 90-80 combined record at the time of his departure. Seattle recorded five consecutive winning seasons for the first time in franchise history from 2003 to 2007 and set the club’s single-season record at the time with 11 consecutive victories in 2005.

Holmgren, who had a stretch of success with Green Bay prior to coming to Seattle, is one of five head coaches in NFL history to take two different teams to a Super Bowl and win at least one title, and he became the first coach in history to post 75 or more wins with two franchises.

The Pro Football Writers of America voted Holmgren the 2007 Horrigan Award winner, given to the person (not a player or team media relations member) who helped the media best do its job during the season, and he was the 2008 recipient of the Steve Largent Award.

Last Monday, the Seahawks honored Holmgren’s quarterback in Seattle, Matt Hasselbeck, who became the 13th member of the Seahawks Ring of Honor.

Holmgren joins Chuck Knox as just the second head coach to be inducted in the Seahawks Ring of Honor.
