Seahawks Injuries: Tyler Lockett questionable, Brandon Shell out vs 49ers
For the second week in a row, the Seahawks will be without starting right tackle Brandon Shell as he battles an ankle injury. They may also be without star receiver Tyler Lockett, who is questionable with a hip injury.
Seattle listed six players on the team’s final injury report ahead of an NFC West showdown with the San Francisco 49ers.
Also listed out is backup running back Rashaad Penny, who has missed the last two weeks with a calf injury. Neither he or Shell practiced this week.
Rookie receiver Dee Eskridge is doubtful with a concussion. He, like Penny, has missed the last two weeks. Eskridge was a limited participant Thursday after not practicing Wednesday. Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Friday he doesn’t think Eskridge will play, but they’ll get another report on Saturday to help determine if he can.
With Shell, Carroll said he’s “almost there right now” and the injury isn’t a long-term issue. If he can’t make it back for next Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams, Shell will “for sure” play Week 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Two defensive ends are questionable to play as Benson Mayowa (neck) and Alton Robinson (knee) are battling injuries. Mayowa was a full participant Wednesday and a limited participant Thursday while Robinson wasn’t listed until Thursday, when he was limited. Carroll said Robinson has a good chance of playing and Mayowa has a shot, but is a little bit behind Robinson. Mayowa missed last week.
Lockett practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday but did not practice on Thursday before returning to practice Friday. Carroll said he rested and did a lot of treatment and “feels good.” Carroll also said the hip has been bothering Lockett for “some time” and isn’t related to the injury he suffered against the Vikings last week.
Tight end Gerald Everett, who was placed in the COVID-19 list earlier this week, is unlikely to play as he has yet to test negative, Carroll told reporters. But if he tests negative Saturday, Carroll believes there’s a chance he can play.
Good news for the Seahawks is that star receiver DK Metcalf, who showed up on the injury report Thursday with a foot injury, is good to go. Carroll said he had a sore foot and they just rested him.
Also good news is that tight end Colby Parkinson, who started the year on injured reserve with a foot injury, should make his 2021 debut on Sunday. Right tackle Cedric Ogbuehi also started the year on injured reserve with a biceps injury, and Carroll said there’s a chance he returns Sunday as well to play in place of the injured Shell.
The 49ers also have some injuries they’re dealing with.
Starting cornerback K’Waun Williams is out with a calf injury and backup cornerback Josh Norman is doubtful with a chest injury.
San Francisco also has three key players listed as questionable in star tight end George Kittle (calf), 2020 first-round defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) and rookie running back Elijah Mitchell (shoulder).
