How many All-Stars will the Mariners have in San Diego on July 12? We’ll find out Tuesday afternoon as the teams will be announced on the Esurance All-Star Selection Show at 4 on ESPN.
The Mariners have three candidates that could represent them at the Midsummer Classic at the Padres’ Petco Park.
Stecker: Will playing time for Mike Zunino benefit the Mariners?
Second baseman Robinson Cano is almost assuredly heading to his seventh career All-Star Game (second as a Mariner), as he has a .303/.358/.535 slash line with 19 home runs and 54 RBIs.
Outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz, who has a .280/.364/.537 slash with a team-high 21 home runs and 56 RBIs, seems a good bet to be an All-Star for the fifth time total and fourth in a row, as well.
Third baseman Kyle Seager could also sneak his way onto his second career All-Star team thanks to his .274/.358/.516 line, 16 homers and 54 RBIs. He may be more suited to be on the Final Vote ballot, though, in which fans will have until later this week to vote on a short list of players vying to take the last spot on each league’s initial All-Star roster.
