We knew the Seahawks would be without three notable names on offense against the Vikings, but the team will also be missing a few big names on the other side of the ball Sunday.
Huard: What Seahawks must do on offense, defense to beat Vikings
Defensive end Benson Mayowa, who was questionable to play with a neck injury, is inactive, as is defensive back Marquise Blair.
Blair did not carry an injury designation on the team’s final injury report on Friday, but he was listed as having a knee injury, which made him a limited participant on Thursday before practicing fully on Friday. Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on his weekly interview on 710 ESPN Seattle’s pregame show that Blair injured his knee this week.
For the second time in three games this year, defensive end L.J. Collier is a healthy scratch for the Seahawks. He also did not play in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.
On offense, the Seahawks are without rookie receiver Dee Eskridge and former first-round running back Rashaad Penny for the second straight week. Eskridge suffered a concussion in Week 1 while Penny has a calf injury.
Also missing Week 3 with injury is starting right tackle Brandon Shell, who hurt his ankle in last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans. Cedric Ogbuehi, who was Shell’s backup last year, is on injured reserve, so Jamarco Jones is expected to get the start in Shell’s place against the Vikings.
Rounding out the inactives list for the Seahawks is third-string quarterback Jake Luton, who’s been a healthy scratch in every game this season.

The Seahawks made two promotions from the practice squad for the game, recalling receiver Cody Thompson and defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche. Thompson has yet to appear in an NFL game while Nkemdiche, a former first-round pick, is playing in his second game in a row for the Seahawks. He had seven tackles against the Titans while filling in for defensive tackle Bryan Mone, who was out with an elbow injury. Mone is back for Seattle this week.
On the other side, the Vikings will be without star running back Dalvin Cook (ankle) as well as starting linebacker Anthony Barr (knee). With Cook out, Alexander Mattison is expected to get the bulk of the carries out of the backfield for Minnesota. When these two teams faced off last year, Cook went down early with an injury, and Mattison compiled 136 total yards on 23 touches.
