Wyman: How Seahawks adjusted midgame to Titans’ passing attack

Sep 21, 2021, 3:39 PM

The Seahawks came up short in Sunday’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Titans, but considering they took a 24-9 lead into halftime, it’s not like there wasn’t a lot of good to take from the game.

Is Seahawks’ Pete Carroll showing a different, less patient side?

For example, the way Seattle’s defense adjusted to the passing attack led by quarterback Ryan Tannehill and wide receivers Julio Jones and A.J. Brown.

Tennessee had success through the air in the first half, and though running back Derrick Henry led the Titans’ comeback in the second half, the Seahawks came up with some answers that led to Tennessee relying more on Henry after halftime.

In this week’s Football 101 video breakdown, 710 ESPN Seattle’s resident linebacker Dave Wyman looks at two very similar plays from the second quarter of the game. The first version of the play resulted in a completion to Jones, but the second just a few plays later ended with Tannehill throwing the ball away as the Seahawks’ defense recognized it and took away what made it successful the first time around.

Wyman, who co-hosts Wyman and Bob Monday-Friday and spends his Sundays as the color commentator on the Seahawks Radio Network, goes through the plays both on his trusty whiteboard and then by using a telestrator as he does after every Hawks game.
