For the first time since he injured his calf, Felix Hernandez threw from the mound Tuesday afternoon. Hernandez threw a 25-pitch bullpen and all went well.
“The arm looks great, he’s fresh, he felt nothing in the lower half, no reservations at all,” said Mariners manager Scott Servais. “I saw it with my own eyes, it was good.”

Felix had thrown two flat-ground sessions leading into the bullpen. The plan is to throw another pen later this week. According to Servais, he will need one to two rehab starts before being activated. If all continues to go well we should see him return shortly after the All-Star break.
He wasn’t the only Mariners pitcher throwing a bullpen Tuesday. Lefty reliever Charlie Furbush, who has been sidelined since July 2015, was back on the mound throwing a 35-pitch bullpen. He’s set to throw a live batting practice session on Saturday.
