The Seattle Kraken finally have a roster after their Wednesday expansion draft, and now the team is taking part in its first ever NHL Entry Draft.
The Seattle Kraken Core: Six players who will be household names
Seattle started things off Friday evening with the second overall pick, and on Saturday, the team made a flurry of other selections as well.
Here at 710Sports.com, we have the info on all of the Kraken’s 2021 draft picks.
1st round: Michigan Center Matthew Beniers (No. 2 overall)
The Kraken scored big in the draft lottery by getting the second overall pick in this year’s draft, and they used that pick to add a potential face of the franchise in center Matthew Beniers, who comes to Seattle from the University of Michigan.
NHL Network’s Jon Morosi offered his thoughts on Beniers on 710 ESPN Seattle’s Wyman and Bob back in June when discussing who he thought the Kraken should select with the second overall pick.
“Tremendous motor. He brings a lot of energy, enthusiasm,” said Morosi. “… Tremendous competitiveness, great integrity, great motor, great shot. I think he’s going to eventually be a goal-scorer in this league.”
