The 2020 Seattle Seahawks NFL Draft class already looks impressive going into the 2021 season, specifically because of two players.
Which big-name free agents should Seahawks target, avoid?
The first is first-round pick Jordyn Brooks, a speedy, hard-hitting linebacker who stepped up into a starting role as a rookie and figures into a key role for Seattle’s defense in his second year.
Second is offensive lineman Damien Lewis, a third-round selection who hit the ground running with Seattle in 2020 fresh off a national championship with LSU, starting all 16 regular season games plus Seattle’s one playoff game at right guard.
Jake Heaps, a former Seahawks quarterback and current co-host of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Jake and Stacy, expects both players not just to continue their upward trajectory in 2021 but to get into the mix as potential Pro Bowl candidates.
With Brooks, who is going into the season as Seattle’s weakside (WILL) linebacker, Heaps said he feels “like we’re going to watch this kid take off.”
“He has all the talent and all the tools to be an explosive WILL linebacker in this league, a prototype of what you’d want,” Heaps said. “Big, stocky, physical, violent, and has flat-out speed to run sideline to sideline. He’s perfectly built for today’s NFL. I think you’re going to see him take a major step forward this season.”
Lewis, meanwhile, is a player Heaps called “key to their offensive line success.”
“If Damien Lewis in his second year can really take that next step and build off what he did his rookie year, do not be surprised if you see him get nominated and selected to a Pro Bowl this year,” he said.
