After finishing the Rangers’ series, the Mariners will not face an American League West opponent for almost a month. With the Astros threatening to make some noise before running into division-leading Texas, and the Rangers themselves rolling despite injuries, the division will bear watching.
This was the topic of the roundtable segment of the Mariners radio pregame show. Rangers beat writer Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News joined the segment to discuss what he has seen.
Grant believes the AL West will be a three-team race with the Rangers set up nicely for a run. While a number of key Rangers starters have been on the disabled list this year, there have been numerous silver linings discovered in their absence.
The Rangers are a very deep team, but the question is, are they deep enough to pull off a repeat of last year at the deadline and bring in an impact player like Cole Hamels? Grant offers interesting insight into what we could see from the division rivals.
