Wide receiver Sidney Rice will sit out Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said during his 97.3 KIRO FM Friday morning show. Carroll later confirmed the news during his post-walk thru press conference.
“Sidney won’t make it in this one, but he had a lot of work and gave us the thought that he has a chance next week,” Carroll said Friday afternoon. “A pretty solid chance next week. That would be good stuff.”
Rookie wide receiver Kris Durham saw his share of the action throughout practice and Carroll said he is likely to be active for the game on Sunday.
Carroll also announced that Robert Gallery will start at left guard this week and rookie James Carpenter will move back over to right tackle.
“Robert coming back helps us. His experience — it’s the reason that we’ve got him here is to help those guys up front and communicate well and make the game move more smoothly for them, so hopefully that will happen.
“He’s rock-solid as a guy and a worker and his dedication to the system and the scheme and all that that calls for, so he really helps us so hopefully we should be sharper and cleaner and that’s what we’re counting on.”
As for Carpenter moving back over to right tackle, Carroll said that he is comfortable with the transition.
“There’s a week that upsets him, in a sense, physically being on the other side. But it gives us the flexibility and he may wind up over there again some time. We don’t really know.
“He’s had a good, solid week and I’m hoping he’s going to do really well.”
In other team news, linebacker David Hawthorne is expected to play on Sunday although Carroll has yet to name him as the starter. Defensive end Dexter Davis continues to experience a “problem with his hip,” per Carroll and has been ruled out for Sunday.
