The Seahawks have signed running back Marshawn Lynch to a multi-year deal, the team announced Sunday.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed. According to reports, the deal is for four years and $31 million, with $18 million guaranteed. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that the total amount is $32 million and the guaranteed portion is $17 million, “with another million extremely likely which makes it all but guaranteed.”
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, both sides had agreed to the terms of the deal a month ago “and it took until today for the RB to actually sign off on it.” Had no deal been reached the Seahawks could have placed the franchise tag on Lynch, which would have given him a one-year contract worth $7.7 million.
“We are excited to keep Marshawn as a part of what we are building,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in a statement. “This is what we were hoping for when we acquired him from Buffalo.”
Lynch, 25, is coming off the best season of his five-year NFL career. He was the league’s seventh-leading rusher, totaling 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns, and played in the Pro Bowl as an injury alternate.
