Matt Flynn was scheduled to conclude a two-day visit with the Seahawks on Friday before heading to Miami to meet with the Dolphins.
That’s about all we know for sure.
There’s no shortage of reports and opinions about what might happen, though. I’ll pass those along below throughout the day.
• Peter King of Sports Illustrated tells “Bob and Groz” that he predicts Flynn will end up with the Seahawks.
• With the 49ers’ emerging as a suitor for Peyton Manning, according to ESPN, Peter King of Sports Illustrated says he thinks there is “no way Seattle gives its top offer for Flynn” with the possibility that Alex Smith could become available. The Seahawks were believed to be interested in Smith last offseason before he re-signed with the 49ers on a one-year deal.
• ESPN’s John Clayton
tells “Brock and Salk” that Flynn will go through with this visit to Miami. Clayton contends that the Dolphins will outbid the Seahawks for Flynn because they are desperate to maintain credibility with their fanbase after a series of failed attempts to lure big names to Miami. The Dolphins went after Jim Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher before both coaches decided to take jobs elsewhere. Their pursuit of Peyton Manning was apparently an unsuccessful one as Manning reportedly informed the Dolphins Thursday that he will not sign with them.
• Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald writes that “an associate of Flynn could not rule out Flynn signing with Seattle before he flies to Miami.” Jackson thinks it would take a “very big, perhaps take-it-or-leave-it offer – and strong indication that Seattle wants him to be their starter” in order for Flynn to cancel his visit with the Dolphins and sign with the Seahawks.
• Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports tweets that Flynn wants to sign with the Dolphins but the team is “low-balling the offer, thinking he’ll take it just” to play for his offensive coordinator in Green Bay, Joe Philbin, who is now the Dolphins’ head coach.
• Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post reports that Flynn arrived in South Florida on Saturday to meet with the Dolphins. Volin talked to Flynn’s father, who expects Matt to make a decision at some point this weekend. “Logic would tell me he would do something this weekend or thereabouts,” Alvin Flynn said. “He doesn’t want to drag this out.”
More to come.
