The Seahawks are looking at free-agent tight ends Visanthe Shiancoe and Jacob Tamme to fill the backup role vacated by John Carlson, who signed with the Vikings last week.
The Seahawks had their visit with Shiancoe on Monday and reportedly had a visit scheduled with Tamme.
Shiancoe, 31, spent the past five seasons with the Vikings and played with current Seahawks Sidney Rice, Tarvaris Jackson and Heath Farwell. Darrell Bevell was his offensive coordinator for four of those seasons. Shiancoe caught 36 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns in 2011. He hasn’t missed a game during his nine-year career.
Tamme, 27, has spent all of his four NFL seasons with the Colts. His best season came in 2010, when he caught 67 passes for 631 yards and four touchdowns while playing in place of injured starter Dallas Clark. Tamme caught 19 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown last season.
Other Seahawks-related notes:
• Free-agent linebacker David Hawthorne is scheduled to visit with the Lions on Tuesday. Hawthorne, who has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Seahawks, visited with the Saints last week. Dave Wyman offered his thoughts in today’s Blue 42 on what losing Hawthorne would mean for the Seahawks.
• Guard Robert Gallery agreed to a deal with the Patriots on Monday, according to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network. The Seahawks released Gallery last week after one season.
• Pete Carroll confirmed in a conference call Monday that the Seahawks officials flew to Denver in an unsuccessful attempt to set up a meeting with free-agent quarterback Peyton Manning. “We tried to hook up with him but couldn’t make it come together. We tried to fit into his schedule that looked like it had some space in it, but there wasn’t enough. So we made an effort,” Carroll said.
• ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Seahawks are trying to schedule a free-agent visit with former Raiders running back Michael Bush.
