Mariners Highlights: Ty France keeps really hitting as M’s beat Royals 6-3

Mar 9, 2021, 4:16 PM | Updated: 8:47 pm

Repeating the phase that Ty France can really hit may have reached the point of parody on social media, but the thing is, it’s only a joke because the Mariners infielder keeps giving people reason to say it.

Like on Tuesday, when he showed once again that, well, he really can hit.

Taylor Trammell, standout of spring training, may steal Mariners’ LF job

France kept up his torrid spring training, going back-to-back with Dylan Moore on first inning homers and later adding his second double of the spring as the Mariners took down the Kansas City Royals 6-3 (box score here) in Peoria, Ariz., earning them their second win of Cactus League play and first since their spring opener nine days prior.

Moore led the game off for Seattle with a home run, and the M’s weren’t done after France followed suit. Kyle Lewis was aided by the wind on a blustery day in the desert for a triple, and Evan White brought him home with a sac fly to make it 3-0 M’s. Tom Murphy also took advantage of the wind for a double before the inning ended.

Seattle tacked on two more runs in the second after France doubling home Jake Fraley and was then driven in by a Lewis single.

France, who started at second base and also earned a walk Tuesday, has gone 8 for 13 (.615) with three home runs, two doubles and 2.219 OPS in six games this spring.

Mariners starting pitcher Ljay Newsome had a great outing, throwing three scoreless innings with one hit and no walks allowed, striking out three.

In relief, Matt Magill and Jimmy Yacabonis each threw a perfect inning, with Magill registering two strikeouts.

Donovan Walton, who started at third base, went 2 for 3 with a run scored for Seattle.

You catch a tape delayed airing of the game on 710 ESPN Seattle at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. The Mariners continue Cactus League play at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday at home against the Texas Rangers.
