The Seahawks selected safety Winston Guy from Kentucky with the 181st overall pick and the team’s second pick in the sixth round.
Guy played cornerback his freshman year, moved to safety for his sophomore and junior seasons and finished his senior year as a hybrid safety/outside linebacker. He measures in at 6-feet-one, 218 pounds, adding even more bulk to the Seahawks secondary.
“Guy, who projects as a safety at the next level, might not be as skilled as other players available at the position, but he boasts versatility and exceptional durability after appearing in all 51 games while with the Wildcats,” notes STATS LLC.
During the conference call with the Seattle media after his selection, Guy said his defensive coordinator had coached him into the hybrid safety role and he viewed it as an opportunity to help his draft stock.
“I went along with it; I’m not a selfish player in any kind of way,” Guy said. “I was doing whatever I could to help our team. I felt like playing in that position would help me as far as going into the draft, or what not.”
