It took half a season for the Seahawks’ offensive line to get going in 2011.
That unit had two rookie starters — James Carpenter and John Moffitt — and was adjusting to the terminology and style of Tom Cable, who had to implement his system in a condensed offseason.
Cable expects everything to come together much sooner this season.
“I’m thinking Saturday night at about 7:30,” Cable told “Bob and Groz” on Wednesday.
Saturday night, of course, is when the Seahawks will play their preseason opener against Tennessee at CenturyLink Field. And while Cable obviously isn’t expecting perfection in the first exhibition game, he is expecting his unit’s play to reflect how far ahead it is compared to last summer.
“For me, it’s been night and day. You think about trying to plug two rookies in last year was one set of problems, but then putting in a whole new system. It was similar to what Alex Gibbs had done when he came, but he and I don’t have the same terminology and he and I don’t coach the same way,” Cable said.
“So … everybody kind of had to start over. And so without having OTAs and the offseason it was really kind of a tough period. But it is what it is. We got through it and finally got off our tails and got to blocking somebody, but it took too long. This year we’ve gotten ahead of it a little bit because of the offseason.”
In the video below, Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby share more thoughts from their conversation with Cable.
