Seahawks coach Pete Carroll told reporters last week that running back Marshawn Lynch was responding well to treatment for the back spasms that were keeping him from practicing.

“He took a real good turn this week,” Carroll said Wednesday. “And the rehab that he has been doing has really been effective so we think he’s going to be fine.”

Six days later, a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Seahawks are uncertain whether Lynch’s back will allow him to play in Sunday’s regular-season opener against Arizona.

The timing of those events seems suspicious to Danny O’Neil, who covers the Seahawks for The Seattle Times. In the video below, O’Neil and Bob Stelton discuss Lynch’s injury and what the Seahawks will do if he can’t play.

You can listen to Tuesday’s podcast here.

As for DUI charges Lynch pleaded not guilty to in July, his attorney, Ivan Golde, believes it will not go to trial until after the 2012 NFL season is over. Either that, or the case will be dismissed.

Lynch was arrested early on July 14 after the California Highway Patrol reported seeing Lynch weaving on I-880 in the Oakland area. An incident report released by CHP described Lynch driving a Ford Econoline van and having two near collisions with two other vehicles driving in adjacent lanes.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
